The Java Network Launching Protocol (JNLP) Common Data Format (CDF) libraries
hosted at http://sscweb.gsfc.nasa.gov/skteditor/cdf/
have been updated. This packaging of CDF is done as a convenience for Java
applications that require the CDF library and are deployed as Java Network Launching Protocol (JNLP) Web Start
applications. Multiple applications (both NASA and non-NASA) use this one set
of libraries. This update will appear as version 3.2.1a when viewed as a Web
Start library/resource. It reports a CDF version of 3.2.1. End users are not
expected to notice any functional difference. Users of applications like
SKTeditor should
automatically (subject to Web Start's less than expected
behavior) receive this update. The following describes the difference
between this release and the previous 3.2.1 release.
Microsoft Windows
- No difference (exactly the same JAR file). The original 3.2.1 release
for this platform still contained a vulnerability and was quickly overwritten
with an update. The two 3.2.1 versions were indistinguishable based upon
displayed version information.
Linux (x86), Mac OS X (ppc, x86), and Solaris (x86, SPARC)
- Built from ftp://cdaweb.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/cdf/dist/cdf32_1/unix/cdf32_1-dist-all.tar.gz (dated 05/08/08). No functional difference
was observed between this and the previous build (built from
cdf32-dist-all.tar.gz dated 05/02/08) but this update restores synchronization
with Microsoft platforms.
- The Mac OS X PPC build was performed on an actual 10.4.11 PPC system.
The previous build was performed as a cross-compile from a 10.5 x86 system.
The cross-compile never successfully completed the entire CDF build but seemed
to build the piece needed for this.
Note: not yet support
- 64-bit libraries on Mac OS X (Java 1.6).
- newer JAR compression options (e.g., pack200) due to server content negotiation issues with Apache 1.x.
Any questions concerning the Windows platform should be sent to
cdfsupport@listserv.gsfc.nasa.gov. Any questions concerning the build
procedure for other platforms should be answered in the README file contained
in the corresponding JAR file. If the README file doesn't answer your build
questions or you have other types of questions,
contact
cdfsupport@listserv.gsfc.nasa.gov.
